“The Notorious” Conor McGregor (22-4) vs. Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (26-6, 1 NC)
The UFC kicks off the 2021 season with a band and the return of Conor McGregor to the main event when he takes on top ranked lightweight contender Dustin Poirier in a battle in the 155-pound division.
Bookmakers have listed McGregor as a -310 favorite to beat Poirier (+250) and rightfully so after their first encounter.
If you recall the last meeting between the two McGregor didn’t have much trouble finishing Poirier in the first round of their previous meeting with a strong left cross and it was game over for Poirier.
Here is the full main card for the event:
- Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier
- Dan Hooker vs. Michael Chandler
- Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood
- Matt Frevola vs. Arman Tsarukyan
- Marina Rodriguez vs. Amanda Ribas
McGregor is a knockout machine but are you willing to risk (-310) on The Irishman has only competed twice since late 2016 and in those four-plus years he’s 1-1? Poirier is the classic version of a blood-and-guts warrior and will need to fight smarter than he did when they last met which means movement, clinching, and frequent wrestling.
McGregor is know for taking you out early and if Poirier can get this past the second round I honestly feel he has a shot at pulling the upset in this one.
Poirier has looked much more durable at 155 weight class.
There is no way Poirier should be a +250 underdog in this fight. Those odds definitely don’t reflect how close I think the fight will be.
Prediction: Maybe I’ve taken a few to many blows to the head but I will go with Poirier (+250). Easy winner with all the hype on McGregor
