UNLV Kingpin Jerry Tarkanian Dies

A disintegrating golfer still makes headlines over the next generation of pros that we could wager money on.  Major media outlets cover the tweets from Tiger Woods like announcements from up on high.  This week we learned that his back is feeling better.  I was all for the attention before because a push from him would have gotten Tiger into the World Match Play Championship.  Now he should recede into the background and focus on healing.  Today starts the Pebble Beach Pro Am.  Lots of stories from defending champ Jimmy Walker to Johnson’s comeback from a cocaine suspension.  Issues and players in the tourney we can all wager on.  Instead, Tiger news on how he is aiming for the Honda for his comeback. Hello and welcome to your ATB Op Ed portion portion of the show.  Tiger getting all of the light hinders us from getting down to work at the Pebble.  This PGA event revolves around three courses.  Each with their own issues, knowing the courses and whom plays on them during what day translates into an additional edge for our sports handicapping.  Remember how Jimmy Walker almost collapsed last year.  Nerves and the main Pebble course got to him so we keep that in mind when we troll for winners.  I,for one cast, the nets wide and pinned a hope on Jason Day near +750 for my golf future to take this.  America’s Bookie has a vast selection of futures and individual match ups for you to wager on.  Sit back and feel the California warmth through your television middle America.

Tark Dies

The UNLV Kingpin was this coach/rebel who built a dynasty out in the desert.  Jerry Tarkanian took the  running rebels to the status of national power when he coached there.  His passion was so great for the game that he resorted to chewing on a towel to hold it all in while on the sidelines.  His thirty point blowout in the 90 title game is still the largest final win in history.  Walking between the raindrops, the NCAA went after him numerous times for academic issues.  He counter sued and won $2.5 from them in a settlement.    We all knew this day was coming as he was in ill health for a while.  ATB mourns his passing.

The Karl Question Will Be Answered

George Karl is regarded as a good coach.  However his time at Denver put a pall on his legacy.  With a loaded team, he made it only once to the conference championship.  Was it Carmelo Anthony or the coach that held the franchise back?  Well look at the Knicks and you get most of the answer.  George can complete the solution now that he has taken the reigns of the Sacramento Kings.  His teams entertain and win.  Two things sorely needed in Sac town.  With them entertaining the Celtics on Friday, ATB’s Free Pick is to pounce on the Kings when the line comes out.  This team will be high flying and even if Karl is not behind the bench for this one, the Kings will take it as an audition.  Almost feel sorry for Boston in this one late Friday evening.  Good fortune to us and we will see you tomorrow to tell you what number I got in this game.
