Auto Club 400, Nascar Event # 5

This stop is the 5th on the NASCAR Sprint series and the inaugural event here back in 1997 was won by Jeff Gordon.

Since this course was build back in 1995 there have been 25 sprint cup races over this circuit and after an brief absence and some reconstruction the race returned to what was formerly known as California Speedway.

Home town by Jimmy Johnson who resides in nearby El Cajon, California holds the track record for most wins over this strip (5 wins).

Kyle Bush is the defending champion of this event the past 2 seasons but he will not be in action come this Sunday due to a fractured right leg and foot which he sustained in late February at Daytona International Speedway.

Pole position at this track is not a must since the only person to every record a victory from that spot was non other than Jimmy Johnson who did that back in 2008.
