The Auburn Tigers are 2 and 0, but by their skin of their teeth literally. After beating Louisville by a touchdown on the road penning week, last Saturday Auburn was forced to play an overtime possession to post a 7 point win against of all teams the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
The problem is their quarterback Jeremy Johnson as he is 90th in passing efficiency which is 119!!!!!!! Last season at this time, he was {get this}8th in the nation replacing Nick Marshall.
Sophomore QB Jeremy Johnson was the first Auburn QB to start back-to-back season openers since Chris Todd (2008-09). His nine career touchdown passes have been to seven different receivers: Ricardo Louis (2), Sammie Coates (2), Quan Bray, Jay Prosch, Melvin Ray, Tony Stevens, C.J. Uzomah and D’haquille Williams.
JEREMY JOHNSON BY THE DOWN
1st: 25-34, 370 yds, 4 TD, 2 INT, 192.00 QBR
2nd: 27-40, 376 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT, 166.21 QBR
3rd: 16-23, 249 yds, 3 TD, 2 INT, 186.16 QBR
4th: 0-2, 0.00 QBR
Auburn plays five teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25: Alabama (3), Georgia (9), LSU (14) {plays this afternoon}, Ole Miss (17) and Arkansas (18). Additionally, Auburn plays two other teams that received preseason votes: Mississippi State and Texas A&M. If they play like they did in their first 2 games, they will not beat the aforementioned teams.
However, Auburn holds a 162-52-5 (.750) all-time record in games played during the month of September, and has won 37 of its last 46 September matchups. The Tigers are 99-18-1 (.843) all-time at home in September, and 63-34-4 (.641) in games on the road during that month.
Lsu opened their season by going one dimensional and running the ball accumulating 266 yards on 47 attempts for an average of 5.7 yards per tote against what was supposed to be a good Mississippi State defense. Here are Lsu’s game statistics: Avg per catch: 7.9
Ave. per catch: 7.9
Pass efficiency: 106.89
Kick ret avg: 12.2
Punt ret avg: 2.0
All purpose avg/game: 388.0
Total offense avg/gm: 337.0
Defensively, Lsu gave up 335 yards in the air and surrendering 19 points. The Lsu pass defense can be what the doctor ordered for Auburn’s passer Jeremy Johnson who has been far from stellar in his first 2 games of the season.
