Everything was looking great for the Hokies in a resurgence type year under first year head coach Justin Fuentes…until they played Syracuse. Out of nowhere, they were blasted by the Hokies in the Carrier Dome a couple of weeks ago. All of the sudden there was trepidation in Blacksburg after a great start. Some of those questions were quelled after a big win over Miami last week, but this still in essence is an ACC Coastal elimination game for both Virginia Tech and Pitt.
The Panthers have excelled defensively since former Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzi took over a couple of years ago, but the offense has had its issues at times and this year has been no different. The Hokies should be a three and a half point fave based on what they have done for the majority of this year, but Pitt plays great at Heinz Field where this game will take place and this has all the makings of a home dog upset.
Look for this to be a defensive slug fest early and for Pitt to get some big breaks against solid Hokie QB Jerod Evans, who really struggled against Syracuse, but was much better last week against the Hurricanes. This game is going to come down to a few big plays and the Panthers will be the team that makes them, getting a huge home win and staying alive in the ACC Coastal as they try to track down North Carolina.
7.4 DTM Bagels and Locks on the Panthers (PITT +3.5)
