The Cousins/Davis Era in NOLA has started with a lot of question marks as the two have looked great together at times and also pretty imbalanced. Cousins also missed the Pelicans last game a win over Detroit due to a one game suspension. Now they have a chance to show against one of the NBA’s best if they could really become a threat to not just make the playoffs, but actually make a little run as well in the leagues second season.
The Spurs are simply a machine, they might be down by 10 points on the road to a solid team, but find a way by playing fundamental basketball to come back and win, which they have done 46 times this year and counting. The Spurs come into this one 8-2 in their last 10 while the Pelicans are just 5-5, so it makes it even more important for NOLA to protect their home court and get some momentum going in March.
This is going to be a battle of wills as the Pelicans have the two headed monster that could be the remedy to a Spurs team that prides themselves on their outside game as well as driving to the lane with players like Paddy Mills and Ginobli that are masters at it. If the Twin Towers can slow that down as well as stuff the stat sheet on the offensive end, we could see what this Pelicans team could be come playoff time, which is a matchup nightmare.
While NOLA might not win this one outright I see them hanging in this one until the end and with the home fans behind them against one of the faves to win it all in the Spurs. This is going to be a lot of fun Friday night in the midst of Mardi Gras in one of this nations great cities.
