The Red Sox are inching closer to the AL East crown and get a chance to beat up on the division doormat in Tampa Bay in a weekend series lifting off on Friday night from the Tropicana Dome. The Sox have Drew Pomeranz going, who has struggled at times this season, but the way the Sox offense has been playing, it won’t be that tough to overcome him giving up some runs.
The Rays counter with one of the better young under 30 pitchers in baseball in Chris Archer, but he also has struggled and that fact that his team is garbanzo beans has not helped matters either. The Red Sox can smell the division title and have been great against bad teams this season. I look for this game to get out of hand early as the Sox offense has been on fire over the last few weeks and even with Archer putting out a solid effort, it simply will not be enough.
The price here, even though it’s on the road and against a good saber metrics pitcher, is way too low not to jump on it. Look for Boston to start the series off on a high note and do the same for your wallet on Friday night in T.B. Look for Boston to keep dwindling that magic number down all weekend against the putrid Rays.
