Houston……WE MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM… The Cougars might have more talent, and they may have been the team that was looked at as a great possibility of getting into a New Years Six bowl or even the CFP during the preseason. But two things loom for them as they face a 10 win Aztecs team.
Their coach has moved onto Texas and Donnel Pumphrey. The latter is on a mission to become the NCAA’s all time leading rusher and needs just 1087 yards to surpass Ron Dayne who has the all time FBS record with 6.397 yards.
Believe you me, Pumphrey has a great chance to get there and aside from that, the Mountain West Champs are a heck of a football team otherwise. The big question will be can Houston and phenom QB Greg Ward Jr, who was once a Heisman candidate, get up for this game after seeing their season fall apart and coach leave for Texas? Ward has had a hell of a career for the Cougs and will want to end it on a high note. So his motivation won’t be questioned, but the rest of the teams might.
This is going to be the type of game where you might know right away who is more excited to be there and if it is the Aztecs, it could be a long night for Houston. I see then combination of Pumphrey and Houston being down after their possible dream season got away from them as enough to shade towards San Diego State. This game might be over a lot sooner than many believe it will be.
