Extreme Level of Dominance Not Good for UFC

A novelty became the main event.  Because of a high profile injury, Ronda Rousey became the flag bearer for UFC 184.  Dana White and company set the undefeated champ with the #1 contender.  What happened next set back women’s sports a few years in mixed martial arts.  By the time the bottle opener met the cap, the fight was over.  Who dominated in such fashion and what is to become of the ladies division in UFC?

Full Steam Ahead

Cat can always say she got a hand on Ronda.  Can over confidence set in under fourteen seconds?  The champ has an extensive judo background and put it to good use as a wicked armbar bent the ladies’ arm at an awkward angle.  Just like that, the submission was in hand and the champ had a dominant win.  If Rousey was this strong against her closest competitor then what is to become of the women’s division?

Fault is With Ronda’s Camp

Experience should have her management instruct her in every contingency. Dominance is not good for your one shot at headlining. The level and speed of the dismantlement should have never happened.  Rousey should have let her opponent hang with her for at least a round or two before leveling the boom.  The history books would have judged her the same but promoters  and sponsors would see more dollar signs with her.  Instead of being built upon, Rousey can never be trusted to carry the UFC banner again.  The legions of fans that came away disappointed ensures that  the women’s side of things will not lead a pay per view again for the immediate future.
