Might Baseball Return in Late June?
1 min readCould this finally be the good news we’ve been waiting for? Are we breathing a little optimism this week that the season will start in late June, and no later than July 2, playing at least 100 regular-season games, according to three executives with knowledge of the talks.
Right now MLB is exploring a three-division, 10-team plan where there would only be divisional games. The divisions would be based on geographic regions and the 2020 regular season, if played, would not have the American and National League pennants. An expanded playoff format would likely happen but has not been discussed.
Possible Division Alignment:
Division 1
- Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Nationals, Orioles, Phillies, Pirates, Blue Jays, Rays, Marlins
Division 2
- Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Cardinals, Royals, Reds, Indians, Twins, Braves, Tigers
Division 3
- Dodgers, Angels, Giants, Athletics, Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Rangers, Astros,e Mariners
If all of this is going to happen MLB would need to explore how they plan on testing players, where would you house these players and would the players union be ” all-in” for the above with a short amount of time for players workouts before the first pitch?
