MLB Who’s Hot and Who’s Not – July 31
2 min readBy Dave Schwab
The month of July comes to a close and a few MLB teams are starting to make a strong move towards the postseason with some strong play in their past 10 regular season games. The Los Angeles Dodgers still hold the best record in the Majors at 74-31 after winning eight of their last 10, but a pair of teams in the AL Central have done them one better with a 9-1 record over their last 10 contests.
The Cleveland Indians saw their recent nine-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox as -142 road favorites on BetAnySports’ closing line. The Indians (57-46) are still just two games up on Kansas City in this division title race in light of the Royals’ 9-1 run in their last 10 games. Kansas City reeled off nine-straight wins as well before losing to Boston 9-8 this past Saturday as a +142 road underdog. The Royals closed out that series with a 5-3 win on Sunday as +159 underdogs.
Cleveland will head into Boston this week for a three-game series starting on Tuesday night while Kansas City stays on the road for three games against Baltimore this week. BetAnySports has opened the Royals as -129 favorites for Monday night’s series opener.
Another hot AL team is the New York Yankees with eight victories in their last 10 games. This run has put them back into the driver’s seat in the AL East Division title race at 56-47, which is now a half-game ahead of a slumping Boston Red Sox team that is just 3-7 in its last 10 games. Tampa Bay has also fallen off the pace at 3.5 games back after winning just three of its last 10 outings. The Yankees will be back in action Monday night against the visiting Detroit Tigers as -180 favorites on BetAnySports’ current moneyline odds.
The Chicago Cubs’ current lead in the NL Central over Milwaukee stands at 2.5 games after taking two of three from the Brewers this past weekend on the road. The Cubs are now 56-48 on the year after winning seven of their last 10 games. Going back to the All Star break, the defending champs are 13-3 in their last 16 games. Chicago will play host to Arizona this week while Milwaukee welcomes St. Louis to Miller Park for a three-game set starting this Tuesday night.
