New Mexico Bowl-Thursday, December 24th 2020 Predictions
2 min readMerry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone here. All I can say is wow what a 2020 this has been and if it were not for some kind of sports on the tubes I’d have lost more than just my hair these last 9 months. As the saying goes one day will not make up for the entire year but let’s enjoy the next few days with family in our own bubble and hope 2021 brings us back to some sort of normality in our everyday lives.
On this the eve of Christmas we have College football and the New Mexico Bowl to keep us entertained during the mid afternoon so let’s try to find us a winner.
New Mexico Bowl
Teams: Hawaii Rainbow Warriors vs. Houston Cougars
When: Thursday, December 24th 2020 at 3:30PM ET
Where: Toyota Stadium (Frisco, Texas)
Watch: ESPN and the ESPN App
Las Vegas Odds: Houston (-11.0) O/U (59.5)
Head-to-Head
This will be just the second meeting between these two teams. Hawaii and Houston have never met in the regular season, as their previous meeting came in the 2003 Hawaii Bowl. Houston has yet to win or cover a posted line in their last three bowl games.
The Houston Cougars look to get to a .500 record while winning their first bowl game since the 2015 season. The Houston Cougars have lost two of their last three non-home games.
The Rainbow Warriors are 15-36 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
The Cougars are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in December and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games. The under is 4-1 in Rainbow Warriors last 5 games overall. The over is 5-1 in Cougars last 6 bowl games.
Hawaii: 32+ pts 6 of last 10 outings, with Houston allowing 30+ pts in 19 of last 25 games. Thus, a high scoring game in the offing and when this line opened at the beginning of the week it came in in (61.5).
The Houston Cougars should be the favorites here, but this is a lot of points to lay with a team that’s played just once in the last two months and has had
issues stopping anything that resembles on offense on the other side of the ball.
Projected Score: Houston 33, Hawaii 27 (Take Hawaii +11.0)
