NFL Who’s Hot and Who’s Not – Week 14

Earlier in the NFL regular season underdogs were the hot bets, but as things start to wind down in anticipation of the start of the postseason, the favorites are starting to dominate the betting results. Favorites covered in 64.3 percent of last week’s games, but even as the overall betting trend continues to turn in their favor there are always exceptions to the rule.

It is no big surprise that teams such as New England and Pittsburgh paid off as favorites last week, but the two hottest teams in the NFL right now for sports bettors would have to be Detroit and Tampa Bay. The Lions lead the NFC North at 8-4 and they have run their current winning streak to four games both straight-up and against the spread following Sunday’s 28-13 road victory against New Orleans as 6.5-point underdogs with BetAnySports. The total has now stayed UNDER in their last six games. Detroit will host Chicago this week as a 7.5-point favorite.

The Buccaneers are now tied with Atlanta at 7-5 SU for first place in the NFC South following their fourth win in a row both SU and ATS. This past Sunday they went on the road against San Diego as three-point underdogs with BetAnySports and came away with a 28-21 victory. Tampa Bay is 5-1 ATS this season on the road and 7-3 ATS when closing as an underdog, however this Sunday it will be at home against the rival New Orleans Saints as a 2.5-point favorite.

The Dallas Cowboys still have the best SU record in the NFL at 11-1 and they have not lost a game since Week 1. While the Cowboys have been a bettor’s dream at 9-2-1 ATS, they are also a team that has now failed to cover as favorites in their past two games in closer than expected battles against Washington at home and Minnesota on the road. This Sunday night Dallas will go on the road to play the rival New York Giants as a three-point favorite with BetAnySports in an effort to avenge its only SU loss of the season.

In another NFC East matchup, the Redskins will go on the road to play Philadelphia in a game that is currently listed as a PICK. Washington is 8-2 ATS over its last 10 games while the Eagles have fallen to 2-7 both SU and ATS in their last nine games.
