NFL Who’s Hot and Who’s Not – Week 3

2 min read

We are two weeks into the new NFL season and there are five teams in the AFC and three teams in the NFC that have successfully navigated their way to a straight-up 2-0 start. When it comes to betting on the games with BetAnySports, seven of the eight teams have also posted a perfect start against the spread.

Looking at the overall betting trends for the first 32 NFL regular season games, underdogs have been paying off at a rate of 59.4 percent with an overall record of 19-13. That winning percentage ticks up a bit to 60.8 when it comes to road dogs cashing in. The OVER play on the total line has paid off 56.3 percent of the time with 18 of the 32 games going OVER BetAnySports’ closing betting line.

Some of the usual suspects are off to a perfect 2-0 start both SU and ATS such as New England, Pittsburgh and Denver. The Patriots continue to win without the services of Tom Brady and it does not seem to matter who is under center for the defending Super Bowl Champion Broncos. The Steelers could be the most complete team so far with victories over Washington and Cincinnati by a combined 30 points.

Some of the early surprises at 2-0 both SU and ATS have been Baltimore, Houston, Minnesota and Philadelphia. The New York Giants are the only 2-0 team that has not covered ATS with a loss and a PUSH. The Eagles have rolled over Cleveland and Chicago with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz at the helm and the Vikings have beaten both Tennessee and Green Bay with two different starting quarterbacks.

Push will come to shove in Week 3 with Houston going on the road to face New England as a 2.5-point favorite on Thursday night while the Steelers head east on the Pennsylvania Turnpike to face the Eagles on Sunday as five-point favorites with BetAnySports. Minnesota will be tested as a 7.5-point road underdog against Carolina and the Broncos will be on the road against Cincinnati in a game that is still “off the board”.

At the other end of the spectrum are eight teams off to a 0-2 start. Buffalo, Cleveland and Indianapolis have also failed to cover in their first two games in the AFC and both Washington and Chicago are 0-2 both ways in the NFC.
