Sergio Chokes Among Those That Faltered on Sunday

Sergio Chokes

Sundays are for rest, relaxation, and recuperation.  Too often we forget about the last one.  In our field of sports wagering, the dramatic can happen on any day.  Sunday presents it’s unique challenge as we can not stockpile on the sleep to recover because the work week starts anew.  So instead, ATB offers a different way to cope.  We present  to you two stories of people that had worse weekends than we could ever have wagering.  One is a PGA mainstay that falters at the end once again.  The other is a pursuit of a world mark that ended abruptly.  All of these for you this morning brought to you by ATB.

Constant Source of Sorrow : Sergio

The crowd almost pitied Sergio chokes as he strolled to the 17th hole on Sunday’s Northern Trust Open.  A rather run of the mill tournament is not supposed to inflict pressure like the majors that have eluded Garcia.  On one of the more easier holes on the course, a birdie would put him in a crushing position to win.  Instead, he posts a six which puts all of his effort into jeopardy again.  On the 18th, he hit a tee shot that looked like one that you or I could manage.  Fifty yards left is a conservative estimate on how far it went.  Still having a shot to get into a playoff, he blows a chip  and can not convert par.  Bogey and he is out.  If you google the words Choking with his name, a list of events pour forth on your screen.  A man of immense talent who needs an even larger lead lest his mind gets in the way of another.

     A Worse Day than Garcia’s

Pursuit of world records can place the people who attempt them in precarious positions.  At times, they do not even realize the dangers that could be involved.  The good people at Guinness seem to have a record for everything.  So when one wants to bicycle around the world, call the record keepers up and see if you have a shot at getting your name in the book.  Why yest they did so a Chilean cyclist set forth over four years ago.  He was about to beat the distance record when on the side of the road, a rural pickup truck struck and killed the man on the countryside in Thailand.  His wife and their two year old boy were hurt.  To document what an effort it was, here are two facts that stick out.

  • 155,00 miles is the record in a five year span
  • The child was conceived and born during the pursuit of the record.

Much endurance for Juan Francisco Guillermo to try and shatter a mark and raise an infant all at the same time. So win or lose this weekend, we can go forth this week firm in the knowledge that whatever tribulations we might have are few in comparison to those in the sporting world could have.  Rest up my friends and come back tomorrow for a Free Pick from America’s Bookie here at ATB.
